I am the Raquel who... | an authenticity post

I came across a post of mine from last January about authenticity.  In it, I listed facts about myself that make up who I am.  To quote, ‘So many times, I think it’s easy for us bloggers to come across as perfect to our readers, but that is so far from the truth.’

With the beginning of this new year and with the title change of my blog, I thought it fitting to, in a way, rewrite that authenticity post of mine.  Not that many of the facts from last January aren’t true anymore, but simply because 2014 brought a lot of changes to the Raquel today.

---

I am the Raquel who…
was found and saved by grace in 2001.

I am the Raquel who…
is the second-oldest of 7 children, which is constantly challenging, but I wouldn’t know what to do without my siblings.

I am the Raquel who…
hates human injustice, heavy metal music, horror movies, and legalism.

I am the Raquel who…
is a pure blooded Oregonian – complete with loving the rain.

I am the Raquel who…
is still taller than most of my peers, has long arms and legs, large eyes, and reminds people of the Disney princess Jasmine, or Pocahontas.

I am the Raquel who…
is enamored by music and can never stop singing.  Music is more than a passion.  It’s in my blood.

I am the Raquel who…
quotes books and songs more than movies and would rather read a book than watch a movie.

I am the Raquel who…
is a cleanliness and organizing freak.  If things are disorganized, I can’t relax, study, write or work.  I also don’t like people touching my feet, or having their feet anywhere near me.  And if you bought something at a thrift store, please wash it before putting it anywhere near me.

I am the Raquel who...
thinks warm beds in cold rooms is one of the best things ever.  And sun amidst the raindrops.  And hugs any time.

I am the Raquel who…
loves adventure, but is scared of unsafe heights, and small, closed spaces.

I am the Raquel who…
loves to travel.  I have been to 12 states and 1 country.  And even though I love the thrill of seeing new sights and places and people, there is absolutely nothing comparable to the joyful feeling I get when I finally come home.

I am the Raquel who…
has never been one to have celebrity crushes or have unreal expectations of what she wants in a man based on a fictional character.  But people, if Peter Quill was a real man, he’d be mine.

I am the Raquel who…
has been nicknamed ‘sassy’ by more than fifteen people, am not afraid to speak my mind, and expects honesty of people as much as I am determined to be honest with others.

I am the Raquel who…
is a night-owl, most imaginative and creative after 10pm, can’t sleep in past 9am.

I am the Raquel who…
dislikes watermelon, tomato soup (unless it’s my Mama’s homemade recipe), candy, mushrooms, Mountain Dew, and Monster drinks.

I am the Raquel who…
would rather eat cookie dough than baked cookies, likes snacking on raw sweet potatoes, cheese sticks and grapes, Trident sweet potato sea salt crackers, and has an obsession with Dutch Bros and frozen yogurt.

I am the Raquel who…
rarely has time to do anything special or fancy with her hair, so it’s usually loose, tied back with my dreads, or I wear sunglasses on the top of my head just for the sake of using them to hold the hair out of my face.

I am the Raquel who…
has a slight obsession with skinny jeans, boots, leather jackets, and scarves.

I am the Raquel who...
wishes she could speak Spanish more often than English, but alas, America is not a Spanish-speaking country.

I am the Raquel who…
cries when she’s really sad, really happy, or really frustrated, who loves finding and smiling at the little things in life.

I am the Raquel who...
loves languages and the complexities they posses, and who hopes to learn 5 before I die.

I am the Raquel who...
loves human hearts that truly feel, and that hurt deeply because they love deeply.

I am the Raquel who…
loves radical ideas and passionate feelings, honest thoughts being spoken and gracious forgiveness when wronged.

The end.
